Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller Headlines Free Nashville Sports Council Virtual Event

Women in Sports Trailblazer to Talk About Her Journey

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller, SEC women’s soccer champion and the first woman to appear and score in a Power 5 college football game, will speak during a free virtual event hosted by the Nashville Sports Council’s Women in Sports Initiative later this month.

The virtual event is set for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. Registration is now open at NashvilleSports.com.

Fuller made national headlines in 2020 after joining a depleted Vanderbilt football team, hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. In Vanderbilt’s game at Missouri on Nov. 28, Fuller became the first woman to appear in a Power 5 college football game. Her historic second-half kickoff came days after she helped guide Vanderbilt women’s soccer team to an SEC title. Just a few weeks later on Dec. 12 against rival Tennessee, Fuller became the first woman to score in a Power 5 football game.

“Whether it was winning the SEC Championship as Vanderbilt Soccer’s starting goalkeeper or rewriting NCAA football history with the Commodores football team, Sarah Fuller exemplified what is positive about collegiate athletics as she represented Vanderbilt, the SEC and Nashville in a first class manner,” Scott Ramsey, President and CEO of the Nashville Sports Council, said. “We’re thrilled that she’ll join us for this virtual event to talk about her journey and how she’s inspiring the next generation of women in sports.”

Fuller’s football journey saw her earn Southeastern Conference Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors, honors by the Nashville Metro Council and numerous national TV and radio appearances.

Most recently, Fuller introduced Vice President Kamala Harris during President Joe Biden’s “Celebrating America” televised inauguration event on Jan. 20.

With her appearance on Feb. 23, Fuller will help add to the Women in Sports Initiative’s mission of increasing the awareness, engagement and promotion of women in sports through events and community involvement.
