Comcast Spotlight Sports Speakers Series features Gaylord Perry

2007-06-12

Nashville, TN - Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry will be the featured guest speaker at the upcoming Comcast Spotlight Sports Speaker Series luncheon presented by the Nashville Sports Council.  The event is set for Wednesday June 20th at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel.

“We are pleased to have a baseball legend like Gaylord Perry here in Nashville,” said Lisa Dean, General Manager of Comcast Spotlight Nashville.  “He certainly is a legendary name in the game of baseball and we can’t wait to hear his take on the game.”

Gaylord Perry was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.  Perry was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young in both the American and National Leagues, capturing the American League honor in 1972 and took home the National League award in 1978.  While he is notoriously known for his spitball, Perry won 314 games over his 22 year Major League career.  The five-time All-Star along with his brother Jim, are also distinguished as being the second-winningest brother combination in the history of the game behind the legendary combo of Phil and Joe Niekro.  Perry appeared in the 1971 National League Championship Series with the San Francisco Giants going 1-1, while striking out 11 total batters.  Members of the 2007 Nashville Sounds will also be in attendance.

Guests in attendance will have an opportunity to sit with the Sounds players in attendance and register for door prizes.  In addition, the Comcast Spotlight Champion Award, which recognizes an outstanding amateur athletic team for their excellence both on and off the playing field, will be awarded.

Guests (Non Sports Council Members) can attend for $25, which includes admission and lunch.  To RSVP for the luncheon, please contact Mike Gregory at 615-743-3127 or MGregory@NashvilleSports.com.  The deadline to RSVP is Monday, June 18th.  Visit NashvilleSports.com for additional information.
