Game date announced for 2007 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented by Bridgestone
2007-04-13
The Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented By Bridgestone announced that this year's annual post-season bowl game will be played on Monday, December 31, 2007, at 3 p.m. CST at LP Field in Nashville.
The 2007 game will mark the second Bowl match-up between the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in Nashville. The 3 p.m. telecast leads into the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which is the only other SEC versus ACC bowl match-up in the country.
"Coming off a record sell out crowd of over 68,000 for the 2006 Bowl, college football fans across Middle Tennessee are already anticipating this year's game," said Bowl Chairman Aubrey Harwell. "This afternoon time slot is the perfect way to ring in the New Year as tens-of-thousands of visitors will be able to travel to Nashville over the extended New Year's weekend and take advantage of all the Bowl festivities, as well as everything else that Nashville has to offer."
Renewal letters will be mailed in June to those individuals who purchased tickets to last year's game. Tickets will go on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster in September.
"It's great to have them as part of our New Year's Eve lineup," said Dave Brown, ESPN programming and acquisitions vice president. "The Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented By Bridgestone will serve as a great lead-in to the Chick fil-a Bowl. It's tremendous to have back-to-back Bowl games featuring an ACC vs. SEC matchup."
The 2006 Bowl had the seventh highest attendance out of all 32 bowl games, with only one Bowl Championhip Series (BCS) game having more fans in attendance. The 2006 Bowl marked the first sellout in the Bowl's history at LP Field and averaged more than 2.6 million total viewers on ESPN. It also generated a record $20.7 milliion economic impact on the local economy and over 51,000 out-of-town visitors to Nashville. Over the past nine years, the Bowl has transformed the week between Christmas and New Year's Day into one of the city's busiest for tourism.
