Nashville, TN - Houston Chronicle NFL beat writer John McClain will be the featured speaker during the next Comcast Sports Speaker Series event.  The luncheon is set for Tuesday, June 27th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with event registration followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m.

"We're excited to have John here in Nashville for this event," said Dave Carter, Area Vice President of Comcast Spotlight.  "He has written himself into the landscape of our community and we're looking forward to hearing his thoughts on the NFL."

McClain has covered the NFL for the Houston Chronicle for more than 30 years.  He served as the beat writer for the Oilers during their time in Houston.  He is by far, one of the most knowledgeable minds covering the National Football League today.  He is a weekly guest on the SportsZone afternoon talk show on 104.5 "The Zone."  In addition to his work at the Chronicle, he has appeared in several motion pictures most recently playing a role in The Longest Yard starring Adam Sandler and Burt Reynolds.

"Since Nashville has become my home away from home, I'm always looking for reasons to visit," said John McClain, a past president of the Pro Football Writers of America and long-time member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee.  "I can't think of a better reason than to help the Nashville Sports Council, a terrific organization, promote professional and amateur sports."  McClain will talk about two of his favorite subjects - the Tennessee Titans and the NFL.

The Sports Council will also present the Comcast Champion Award, which recognizes an outstanding amateur athletic team and/or organization for their excellence both on and off the playing field as well as provides a $500 grant to their athletic program.  Backfield in Motion will receive the Comcast Champion Award next Tuesday.

Guests (Non Sports Council Members) can attend for $30, which includes admission and lunch.  To RSVP for the luncheon, please contact the Nashville Sports Council at 743-3120 or generalinfo@nashvillesports.com.

The deadline to RSVP is Monday, June 26.  Reservations will also be accepted at the door, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on June 27th.  Visit www.NashvilleSports.com for additional information.
