Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented by Bridgestone announces game date
2006-06-23
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented By Bridgestone announced today that this year's annual post-season bowl game will be played on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at 12 p.m. CST, at LP Field (formerly the Coliseum) in Nashville.
Now in its ninth year, the 2006 Bowl matches teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). This represents the first match-up of the two conferences in Nashville and will be televised live on ESPN.
The Bowl has been affiliated with the SEC since the game's inception in 1998. Beginning this year, the ACC has joined the Bowl in a four-year agreement, replacing the Big Ten Conference.
"We're looking forward to building a new post-season tradition between these two power conferences," said Bowl chairman Dale Polley. "We think playing the game on the Friday leading into New Year's weekend will provide a great opportunity for thousands of fans to travel to our community, particularly when considering the geographic footprint of each conference and the member schools' proximity to Nashville." Polley added, "It also provides a great opportunity for the local college football fans to enjoy a match-up of two of the most high-profile conferences in America." Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster in September.
Through 2005, the Bowl has been viewed live by more than 394,000 fans and millions of viewers on ESPN. With the cumulative financial impact estimated at $95 million in its first eight years, the Bowl has transformed the week between Christmas and New Year's Day into one of the city's busiest for tourism.
