Nashville, Tenn. - Representatives of the Nashville Sports Council (NSC) today announced that Nashville Sports Council events produced a $33.9 million economic impact, during the 2005-2006 fiscal year, measured through the Sports Council's "Scorecard".  The Nashville Sports Council just keeps scoring great events and great attention for our city.  The new strategic plan will assure successes in the future," said Mayor Bill Purcell.

The key results from the "Scorecard" for the 2005-2006 fiscal year were:

·          $33.9 million economic impact
·          40,691 hotel room nights produced via NSC events
·          25,931 total participants with NSC events
·          337,656 spectators at NSC events
·          4,599 volunteers supported NSC events
·          21.75 hours of national television
·          1,133 credentialed media covered NSC events
"The 2005-2006 results that were delivered for the city were phenomenal," said Evette White, 2006-2007 chair.

In addition, the Sports Council board of directors recently approved a new five-year strategic plan which focuses on the following key areas:

1) Establish a visionary committee to provide a clear and motivating voice for the city's sports potential over the next 15-20 years.

2) Increase the number of Sports Council owned, recruited and/or supported events, with an emphasis on collegiate events.

3) Develop a legacy component through Sports Council events focusing on health/wellness and education for youth, via youth participation and/or involvement with Sports Council events.

 4) Enhance external communications to effectively communicate Sports Council events, activities, and community impact.

"We're excited about the new five-year strategic plan and working with our board of directors and stakeholders to make it a reality," said Scott Ramsey, executive director.  Added Ramsey, "The legacy component, in particular, has tremendous opportunity for the Sports Council to impact and engage our community's youth through Sports Council events and activities.  Recruiting and promoting sporting events will continue to be the core mission, however, we will aggressively pursue events that fit with our strategic focus for maximum results to the community."

The Sports Council's strategic plan will also focus on a long-range vision for Nashville's Sports landscape.  "By the end of this year, the Sports Council will have produced nearly $250 million in economic impact for Nashville, since the organization's inception in 1992.  This has been an incredible feat," said Evette White, chair.  "Our board of directors will now begin to work with our community partners to address what Nashville needs to focus on for the future to remain competitive as a premier sports destination," added White.

The Nashville Sports Council is a private, not-for-profit, membership-based organization of area corporations and individual sports enthusiasts.  Created in 1992, the Nashville Sports Council's mission is to positively impact the economy and quality of life of the Greater Nashville Area by attracting and promoting professional and amateur sports.  For more information, call 615-743-3120 or visit www.NashvilleSports.com.
