Sports Council Foundation

The Nashville Sports Council provides grants to Nashville area individuals, organizations or teams who are pursuing their dreams of competing at the national or international level. The Sports Council will award a grant for a maximum of $1,000 to any successful applicant. Grants will be distributed on quarterly basis. To qualify for grant consideration, a fully completed grant application must be filled out and all related documents must be attached.

Background
The Nashville Sports Council is a private, 501 (c)(6) not-for-profit, membership based organziation that was established in 1992 to serve as the driver behind developing Nashville's sports landscape. Considered the "quarterback" for sports, the Sports Council was named the 2003 National Sports Commission of the Year. It has successfully brought nearly 100 events that will yield an economic impact of more than $250 million through 2006. In addition, the organization was instrumental in bringing professional sports to Middle Tennessee.

Guidelines
To be eligible for a grant, an individual, team or organization must be based in one of the eight counties in the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Teams and organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501-c-3 of the Internal Revenue Tax Code. The Nashville MSA includes the counties of Cheatham, Davidson, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson. The Foundation focuses on youth sports, therefore the age for the individual or program applying is 18 and under.

Criteria
All grants will be based on the need of the individual, team or organization and the availability of Foundation funds. The Foundation will provide financial assistance to an individual athlete for training expenses, to ease expenses, traveling to national or international competition, and to programs that promote sports opportunities for youth in the Nashville MSA. First priority for distribution of funds will go toward a one-time or unexpected need. Foundation grants are not guaranteed annual donations.

Request for Funds
An individual, team or organization requesting funds from the Nashville Sports Council Foundation should submit the grant application along with the following:

1. Specific amount of funds requested
2. Background of individual, organization or team
3. An explanation of how the requested funds will be used
4. A description of the project time and duration
5. A total budget
6. If an organization, an attachment verifying 501-(c)-3 status within 30 days of the project's completion, a report will be due to the Nashville Sports Council board of directors on the project's success.
